Our Journey Towards a Greener Future
LEMS was born out of a vision to drive Sri Lanka's green transition and establish a sustainable future for urban mobility. Incubated by the Island Climate Initiative (ICI)—an organization committed to advancing urban sustainability and the circular economy—our story began with a bold idea in 2020.
After refining the concept and identifying key partners throughout 2022, LEMS was officially formed in April 2023. Our mission? To lead Sri Lanka's transition to cleaner energy and ensure progress remains on the right path for future generations.
Pioneering Energy-as-a-Service
To spark this transition, LEMS focuses on converting petrol-powered three-wheelers into fully electric vehicles. By engaging with key stakeholders—including three-wheeler owners, drivers, financial institutions, the government, and equipment manufacturers—we’ve designed a scalable strategy to meet the growing demand for energy-as-a-service.
Global Partnerships, Local Solutions
Our partnership with one of India's most advanced companies in swappable battery technology - RACE Energy - and retrofitting solutions strengthens our efforts. Leveraging years of R&D, they’ve developed high-performance batteries proven to excel in conditions similar to Sri Lanka. These cutting-edge batteries are certified by the Automotive Research Association of India and comply with international UNECE standards, ensuring top-notch safety and efficiency.
Driving Change for a Sustainable Future
LeMS is committed to reshaping Sri Lanka’s transportation ecosystem by introducing innovative technologies and sustainable practices. By electrifying one of the country’s most widely used modes of transport, we aim to reduce carbon emissions, improve energy efficiency, and contribute to a cleaner, more sustainable future for all.
